Will Brooklyn Streets Get the Transit Priority They Need During the L Train Shutdown?
During the L shutdown, the MTA plans to run shuttle buses at rush hour connecting Williamsburg to Manhattan. Some sort of transit priority treatment is on the table for Brooklyn streets where buses connect to the bridge, but what DOT has in mind isn't clear.

It’s Bike Month, So NYC Closed the Busiest Bike Route in the Country With No Notice. Again.
Continuing what's become an annual tradition, the Parks Department has set up a bike dismount zone on Hudson River Greenway for Fleet Week. Adhering to past practice, Parks posted no notice of the detour on its website or Twitter.

The new and improved entry path to the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade from Downtown Brooklyn is finally rideable. If the rest of the bridge path ever gets a widening and makeover to match this one, it will become one of the great walking and biking connections in New York.

De Blasio Announces Funding to Fill 8-Block Stretch of East River Greenway Gap
De Blasio’s revised Fiscal Year 2018 budget, set to be unveiled tomorrow, will dedicate $100 million in capital construction funds to build a walking and biking path between 61st Street and 53rd Street, narrowing the East River Greenway gap in Midtown to 12 blocks.

Here’s the DOT Plan for a Delancey Street Bike Lane — Coming in 2018
The Delancey Street approach to the Williamsburg Bridge bike path is slated for a two-way bike lane linking to Allen Street, as well as an eastbound connection from Chrystie Street.

Safety Improvements for 111th Street Coming Monday
When the city decides to act on street safety, it can act fast. Case in point: DOT will begin implementing the redesign of 111th Street in Corona on Monday, less than two weeks after Mayor de Blasio said the project would proceed.

De Blasio Advances 111th Street Safety Plan: “The Right Thing to Do”
Mayor de Blasio gave the go-ahead to DOT's plan for a road diet, wider pedestrian medians, and a two-way protected bike lanes on 111th Street in Corona. The mayor made the announcement last night at a neighborhood town hall in response to a question from Vero Ramirez of Mujeres en Movimiento.

City Hall can move ahead with the redesign without a community board vote in favor. It's simply cruel to keep in place dangerous crossings with high-speed traffic when a better design is ready to go and so many people have campaigned for safer conditions for so long.

DOT Has a Fix for the Crummy Bike Connection Between Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge
The big change in DOT's plan is a two-way section of bike lane protected by a concrete barrier on Park Row, plus a short contraflow lane on Spruce Street. It's not a lot of bike lane mileage, but it's a key link in the network that will be dramatically improved.

DOT Plans Better Bike Connections for Brooklyn Side of Williamsburg Bridge
At Brooklyn Community Board 1, DOT will present a plan to improve bicycle connections on the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge, including protected bike lanes on the blocks approaching the bridge's bike path.
