This Week: Safer 111th Street, Willy-B Approach, and Fifth Avenue
There are a few big DOT bike projects on community board dockets this week.
On Tuesday, the redesign of 111th Street will be up for a vote at CB 4, which DOT has been tiptoeing around for more than two years, delaying much-needed safety improvements. The same day, Brooklyn CB 1 will discuss DOT plans for better walking and biking access to the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge. And on Thursday Manhattan CB 2 will hear about the DOT Fifth Avenue bikeway project. The project got a vote of support from the board’s transportation committee earlier this month

- Today: DOT hosts a public meeting on the Downtown Jamaica Transportation Study. The Harvest Room, 90-40 160th Street, Jamaica. 6 p.m.
- Tuesday: Brooklyn Community Board 1 is expected to vote on the DOT plan to improve access to the Brooklyn entrance of the Williamsburg Bridge bike path and upgrade connections from the bridge to East Williamsburg, Bushwick, and Queens. Swinging 60s Senior Center, 211 Ainslie Street, Brooklyn. 6 p.m.
- Also Tuesday: Queens Community Board 4 will vote on the redesign of 111th Street. VFW Post 150, 51-11 108th St, Corona, 7 p.m.
- Thursday: DOT will present plans for a protected bike lane and other improvements to 15 blocks of Fifth Avenue, between Washington Square Park and Madison Square Park, to Manhattan CB 2. 557 Broadway, auditorium. 8:30 p.m.
