Thursday is the big day this week. You can weigh in how to make the Grand Concourse safer for all street users at a DOT workshop, and DOT presents several safety projects, including the Amity Street Wiggle, to Brooklyn CB 2.
In case you missed it, we’ve switched to a public Google calendar to track events. For more details on these and other listings, please see the full Streetsblog calendar.
- Thursday: DOT holds a workshop on safety improvements to the Grand Concourse between E. 175th Street and Fordham Road. DOT has unveiled designs for safer bike lanes on some segments of the Concourse — which is a Vision Zero “Great Streets” corridor — but has not committed to implementing protected bike lanes and bus lanes from end to end, despite support from local City Council members. St. Simon Stock School, 2195 Valentine Avenue, the Bronx, 6 p.m.
- Thursday: At a meeting of the Brooklyn CB 2 transportation committee, DOT will present plans for the Amity Wiggle, upgraded bike infrastructure on Bond Street and DeKalb Avenue, a pedestrian island at Atlantic and Fourth avenues, and reconfiguration of the bike corral and Street Seats at Rockwell Place and Fulton Street. Long Island University, Jonas Boardroom Metcalfe Hall, Flatbush and DeKalb avenues, Brooklyn, 6 p.m.
- Thursday: The Brooklyn CB 6 transportation committee holds its regular monthly meeting. While the agenda has not yet been set, the committee is likely to revisit the Amity Wiggle, which was discussed at its December meeting. Cobble Hill Community Meeting Room, 250 Baltic Street, Brooklyn, 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday: Manhattan CB 5 and the Regional Plan Association host “Moving Madison Square Garden and the Battle for a Better Penn,” a panel discussion featuring Vishaan Chakrabarti, founder of the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, Times architecture critic Michael Kimmelman, and RPA president Tom Wright. Details and ticket info here. SAG-AFTRA Foundation – Robin Williams Center, 247 W. 54th Street, Manhattan, 7 p.m.
