There’s a lot of livable streets action packed into just two days this week, with multiple big events both tonight and on Thursday.
- Tonight: NYC DOT lays out the design concepts for the new Pershing Square, the space in front of Grand Central. Participate in a public workshop about the ideas at 6:00 p.m.
- Also tonight: Streetsblog NYC editor Ben Fried joins the Five Borough Bike Club to discuss the potential of online media in bike advocacy. 6:30 p.m.
- And more tonight: Last year, without warning, dismount signs appeared in Riverside Park, effectively barring part of the heavily-used Hudson River Greenway for bikes. Manhattan Community Board 7’s parks committee continues its discussion of what to do in Riverside tonight at 7:00 p.m.
- Thursday: With new leadership at the state DOT, the time is now to replace the Sheridan Expressway with housing, jobs, and open space. At a town hall meeting, the South Bronx River Watershed Alliance will make the case and build the coalition to convince the state.
- Also Thursday: Joined by livable streets legend and former Bogotá mayor Enrique Peñalosa, Transportation Alternatives will launch its East Side Action Plan, laying out design and policy recommendations for the entire side of Manhattan. 6:30 p.m.
