Brooklyn Spoke's Doug Gordon tweeted this photo Wednesday morning. This crash happened at the intersection of Prince and Crosby in Soho, which gets a ton of foot traffic and sees some of the highest bike counts in the city. It's only random chance that someone didn't get hit.

Eyes on the Street: An Argument for Protected Bike Lanes in One Photograph
Elevated from today's headline stack: Photographer Dmitry Gudkov snapped this picture on Friday afternoon of a commercial van -- the phone number goes to Glass & Windows, Inc., of Long Island City -- straddling the concrete barrier that separates a two-way bike lane, and the sidewalk beyond, from the busy intersection where Flushing Avenue crosses beneath the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.

Eyes on the Street: A Better Walk to the Center of Bartel Pritchard Square
Bartel Pritchard Square, at the southwest corner of Prospect Park, received some tweaks this morning, including new and re-striped crosswalks enhancing access to the central space in the middle of the traffic circle. There are also markings to channel traffic as it enters the square, and the short stretch of bike lane between Prospect Park West and Prospect Park Southwest has been more clearly marked as two-way.

Eyes on the Street: A New Bike Corral and a Safer Intersection in Cobble Hill
Yesterday, DOT crews installed a bike corral on Court Street near the intersection with Pacific Street, in a "no standing" zone that was often ignored. Like other bike corrals the city has recently installed, this one will improve safety for pedestrians by keeping the corner visible to turning drivers. It's also going to improve customer access to nearby retailers, including the Trader Joe's across Court Street.

Eyes on the Street: A Refresher on the Carlton Ave Bike Lane
Reader Joanna Oltman Smith sends this pic of the guys who recently refurbished the Carlton Avenue bike lane in Prospect Heights. The bike lane got a fresh coat of Thermoplast from Flatbush to Atlantic. Since the Carlton Avenue Bridge re-opened in September -- after an absence of nearly five years due to Barclays Center construction -- one of the better northbound bike connections across Atlantic Avenue in this part of Brooklyn is once again available. It's a light-traffic street and the intersection with Atlantic is less stressful to cross than nearby Vanderbilt.

G Train Disruption Strengthens Case for Pulaski Bridge Bike Lane
Over the past week, the long G train outage caused by flooding from Hurricane Sandy brought the need for changes to the Pulaski Bridge into starker relief. Streetsblog received multiple reports of extreme crowding on the bridge's narrow bike and pedestrian path, which could have been relieved with a protected bikeway across the bridge.

Eyes on the Street: New Stripes for Pedestrians and Cyclists in Central Park
Last month, Streetsblog reported that the Central Park loop would be getting a new lane configuration to clarify where pedestrians and cyclists belong, similar to changes recently implemented in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Less than 30 days after the announcement, walkers, joggers, and bike riders are all getting some extra room in the park, while the space for cars has been narrowed to one lane, calming vehicular traffic. Reader Rod Huntress sent in these photos from a ride this morning.
