A Trucker Killed a Cyclist at the Spot Where de Blasio Announced His E-Bike Crackdown
Abu Rifat has died from injuries sustained when a tractor-trailer driver ran him over as he biked on Amsterdam Avenue earlier this month, NYPD said yesterday. The crash happened at the intersection where Mayor de Blasio announced his crackdown on food delivery workers who use electric bikes.

The M86 Moves Faster and More People Are Riding Thanks to Queue Jumps
While bus ridership is down citywide -- and especially in Manhattan -- there are some routes that are bucking the trend. One that's gaining riders is the M86, which got a package of upgrades from DOT and the MTA in 2015. The improvements included off-board fare collection and queue jumps -- short bus lane segments that enable buses to cut ahead of other traffic at signals.

A Plea for DOT to Design Bike Lanes With Safer Intersections
On Tuesday, the transportation committee of Manhattan Community Board 7 unanimously passed a resolution calling on DOT to replace "mixing zone" intersections on protected bike lanes along Columbus Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue with designs that maintain more physical separation between cyclists and motor traffic.

Postal Truck Driver Kills 83-Year-Old Man on Amsterdam and 95th
A postal truck driver struck and killed an 83-year-old man on Amsterdam Avenue and 95th Street at around 6:00 a.m. this morning. NYPD has yet to determine who had the right-of-way. While Amsterdam Avenue has a protected bike lane at this intersection, there is no pedestrian refuge in the north crosswalk, where the victim was struck.

Bike-Share Stations Don’t Usurp Parking — They Are Parking
O'Donnell apparently believes parking for cars should be the default use for New York City curb space. He also seems to think the extensive public process for bike-share siting, which already happened, shouldn't count because people are now griping about parking. All this in a district where more than 75 percent of households don't own cars.

Take a Stand Against Affordable Housing By Saving This Parking Garage
In NYC's current affordable housing shortage, every square foot counts. With that in mind, the city announced plans earlier this year to relinquish three parking garages it owns on West 108th Street to make way for 280 units of new housing, all of which would be reserved for people earning less than the average income in the area. Naturally, hysteria ensued.
